Re: 100 Group WAAF names needed 1944

Danny you can do most of these yourself

Step 1 - Go to a 1944 Air Force List (say Oct 1944)

https://digital.nls.uk/british-milit...chive/96416262

Step 2 - Find the Names In Index (Alphabetical) and find Service Number

a) Group Officer E.C Bather Page 1104 (#163)

Step 3 - Look up Service number and or Name within LG 1-1-1939 an 1-1-1949

https://www.thegazette.co.uk/all-not...s-page-size=10

a) Elizabeth Constance BATHER 163

Took me 5 minutes

Squadron Leader C. Bond, DFC may take a bit longer

as you will need to track promotions and awards for the following

C 53402 -- > 520309 Cecil BOND ( 53402)
C F 139729 -- > Cyril Frank BOND ( 139729)
C F 145419 -- > Claude Frederick BOND ( 145419).
C H P 62735 --> Charles Hearfield Porter BOND ( 62735).
C N 67781 _> Charles Norman BOND ( 67781).
C W J 332014 - C W J Bond (unknown but Promotion to F/O 1954) so not likely to be them

Re: 100 Group WAAF names needed 1944

So, probably the "Father of James Bond"? (LoL).
Could not let this one pass...a bit of Humour does good for everybody.

Surely a nice research...is it still related to W/C Bertie O'Bryen Hoare?

OBS: There should be an "easy" list for the WAAF....some were Brazilian born that came along with a bunch of Brazilians to serve the RAF...

All the best and excuse me for the joke...It was a good one nevertheless.

A.

Hi Adriano,

How are you friend, yes still in relation to Bertie, its the last bit of the book and it will be off to the publishers before Xmas. I hope, and will certainly put a link on the forum once it is advertised.

Excellent news Danny!

Your work to preserve his deeds do deserve all the best. You already do have a reader from the other side of the Atlantic.

Keep us informed!

Adriano.

Re: 100 Group WAAF names needed 1944

Could Sqn Ldr C Bond DFC be

a G Bond - can't find a Sqn Ldr C Bond with DFC in 1944

But I can find a Geoffrey Bond DFC (Acting Sqn Ldr) #113918 in 1944

He got a Bar to his DFC in 1945

Re: 100 Group WAAF names needed 1944

Paul,

You were right, it was Geoffrey, the ORBs were really difficult to see! I am really struggling with these details, I found most of the initials, but no joy in the LG, again poor working on my part!

Squadron Officer Ford - WAAF - Nothing in the GL
Group Officer B.C Beecroft - WAAF
Section Officer M.K Reynolds - WAAF
Section Officer D.P Black - WAAF
Flight Officer M.P Hyde - WAAF
Section Officer E.Macleod - WAAF
Section Officer J.E Hamilton - WAAF

Any advice please?

Thanks

Danny
