18 dec 1944 AT-7s collision

A friend of mine is looking for some more info on a 18 Dec 1944 mid-air collision of AT-7C #43-50028 and AT-7 #41-1171 near Palestine and Elkhart Anderson county Texas. Names of the men on board all KIFA:

2Lt Newmyer, John Jr
A/C (Aviation Cadet) Roth, Edmund l
Maj Strickland, Rickard Lyman Jr
A/C Rivers, Morris E
A/C Ricker, Russel E in AT-7C #43-50028
2Lt Bither, William H Co-pilot AT-7C #43-50028

List of Dead In Air Crash Given

20. (AP) The Waco army air field released Wednesday names of eight airmen killed and one injured critically in the crash of two twin-engined training planes in an isolated section near Elkhart One plane was from the Hondo army air field and the other from San Marcos army field. The Waco field public relations officer said the planes collided in flight in the early hours of Tuesday. Only one of the nine occupants escaped.

The dead were:
Maj. Richard L. Strickland, 25. El Dorado, Kan.
2nd Lt. William H. Bither, 23, Berkeley, Calif.
2nd Lt John Neumyer, 20, Muskegon, Mich.
2nd Lt. Miles B. Taber, 20, Capay. Calif.
F-0 Rollin C. Wellman, 23, Detroit, Mich.
A-C Russell E. Ricker, Jr, 23, Philadelphia, Pa.

The survivor, 2nd Lt. James E. Nall, 19, Louisville. Ky., was in the station hospital at Camp Fannin, Tyler, in a critical condition from burns.

Looking at Ancestry.com James Nall seems to have lived on until 2009 and is buried in Arlington Cemetery.
