Yellow-nosed Bf 109s in the Polish campaign?
This site claims that 109s during the Polish campaign had yellow noses.
https://www.ipmsstockholm.se/home/ca...ellow%20became "...The yellow nose paint was first introduced on 109’s during the Polish campaign as a recognition marking to avoid ”friendly” fire from the Wehrmacht when operating on ground strafing missions; I have read that the Luftwaffe lost more 109’s this way in Poland than were actually lost in combat, and hence the yellow became the much used ident colour in future offensive campaigns..." Is this correct? Were yellow-nosed 109s used in Poland. And, according to that article, in future offensive campaigns (i.e. Northern Europe in the Spring of 1940, and the Western Campaign in May/June 1940). My take had always been that the yellow nose was first used in the second half of August 1940 during the Battle of Britain, but if this is incorrect, then I am more than happy to stand corrected on that. What say you 109 experts?

In that case why did they not have such noses in the French Campaign? Also "Ground strafing"? Note the date of these profile being 1999-loads of water under the bridge since then |
