Lt Lambert C. Root - DNB 24 Feb 1944 - England

Lt. Lambert C. Root (0-376854) died in an airplane crash in England on 24 Feb 1944. He's buried at the Cambridge American Cemetery.
Unit was US 44th FA Battalion, 4th Inf Div.

According to a 1944 US newspaper he died in "aerial action", another says he died of injuries in an airplane crash.

It appears (a) passenger was Lt Col Henry C. Walker III (0-021839), CO of 44th FA Bn, who also died in the crash.

An L-4 comes to mind? Info welcome, thanks.

Regards,
Leendert

Lt Col. Henry Clay Walker III is at Forest Park East Cemetery,
Shreveport, Caddo Parish, Louisiana USA.

Both he and Lt. Lambert C Root were from the 44th Field Artillery Battalion, 4th Infantry Division.
DNB( Died none Battle).

Small world, they both came from Caddo Parish (County), Louisiana, and are in the World War II Honor List of that State.

Thanks Leendert,
Odd though that one is noted as DNB while the other is DIS . Wonder why the difference if they were killed in the same event ?

On the https://www.wwiimemorial.com

Perhaps Alex got it from the gravestone of Lt Col Walker, which says "Died in service...".
All other references give DNB (wwiimemorial.com, wwii state honor lists...) for Walker.

Leendert

Ah yes. Alex, the grave inscription is just what his family asked to have put on there, its not an official 'status'.
