Angry Q:. Bf.109F-2 Hans 'Assi' Hahn

Are there any pictures of Hahns' Bf.109F-2 with a Red cowling and Red rudder?

TIA,
Andrew

Hello Andrew,
I believe this has been discussed on this forum and it is now believed that the profiles seen with red colour is in fact due to wrong interpretation of b/w photos. The colour was yellow, not red.

There are a number of photos in a book. Check this out from Eagle Editions:

On page 49 in the book the colour interpretation matter is mentioned and also reference to the colour profile in Profile Publications #184, Bf 109 F, from 1967 which has a big part in the red/yellow colour controversy.

Hi guys;
Here is a quote from a letter to me from Assi Hahn dated June 1968:
"The profile publication number 184 that shows my Messerschmitt with a Red cowling and Red rudder is false. These were not red, but Yellow. At first the whole cowling was Yellow, later only the undercowling was Yellow. The camouflage on my Bf 109 F had Light Blue undersurfaces and Blue Gray uppersurfaces." Letter signed Assi Hahn.

Hope this helps -
Jerry

At an IPMS convention a number of years ago Jerry Crandall put on a fascinating presentation on color interpretation. Depending upon the type of film and/or filter the appearance of a color can look vastly different than it really is. The one striking example that I remember was the case of what appeared to be white was actually red (or vice versa).
