Re: Ivan Kozhedub

You name it ! For the sake of your thread I am attaching a shot of Ivan "the terrible" taken sometime in 1945 along with Evstigneev after Kyril's OBE cross award . Kyril was the WWII leading Ace on the Romanian front .From left to right Olihovsky CO 178 IAP, Ivan, unknown, Muhin, Kyril. Ivan as leading Allied ace was recommended by the Allied Commission for the award of US Legion of Merrit , US DSM, US DSC (AF) and UK OBE Cross, though Red Army chief of staff rejected the proposal upon Stalin's order . Ich wünsche euch auch einen schönen Donnerstag und Wochendend.

Re: Ivan Kozhedub

Wasn't it rather 178 GvIAP, not 178 IAP?

Re: Ivan Kozhedub

Dear Alex & Gabor,

thanks for the cool pictures.
Would you guess that they soon will add two stars to the scoreboard of Kozhedub's La-7 in the museum ?

Michael

Re: Ivan Kozhedub

I tried to combine the Bykov list (64 kills) and the Polak list (62 kills) of Kozhedub's score and hoped to find two supernumerary kills in the former. But it looks I found one the the Polak list that's has no partner in the Bykov list (8.7.43 Ju88) and three in the Bykov list that have no partner in the Polak list (11.4.44 PZL, 8.6.44 Bf109,19.2.45 Bf109). Does that mean in a postwar editing of scores one Kozhedub kills was denied and the others upgraded to confirmed?
