Junkers Ju 52 in Brasil
I am researching about Ju 52 aircraft in Brazil by Syndicato Condor, Cruzeiro do Sul, VASP and VARIG airlines since 1934. I found some interesting facts and most of all the probable presence of one of rarest models of Ju 52, the D-AQAR (Ju52 3/mho J4055) named "Walter Höhndorf" one of the three originally equipped with Jumo 205 C-3 engines later upgraded to 206A (Pictured in Paris Airshow). According with Condor magazine this aircraft came to Brasil but never flew and his engines here disassembled and one used by Cruzeiro as stationary without positive results and scrapped. The other two where later donated to Airspase Museum (MUSAL). Does someone have other information about?
Another intriguing fact is about the J4025, JU52 3/mfe D-2588 named 'Rudolf Kleine' by Condor. According with the Condor Magazine this aircraft made demonstration flights in Brasil in 1934 later returning to Germany and crashed in 1941. We have documents stating that some Ju 52 used as airliners werw military models. And Luftwaffe made a formal offer to Brazilian Military Aviation to sell some transport versions in 1936/37. Any comments are welcome. Cheers, Joao |

Re: Junkers Ju 52 in Brasil
Hello Joao, 13 years later...
https://ju52archiv.de/Ju52.pdf This great website on the Ju 52 says: D-AQAR (W-Nr 4055) '... 31 Dec 1936: 1571 flying hours , Syndicato Condor, 25 July 1939: arrival in Junkers Leipzig workshops for overhaul , 3 Aug 1944: transferred by RLM (German Air Ministry) to Lufthansa as 'W. Höhnendorf' refitted with BWM 132.' Clearly the record is incomplete. It is not clear to me if the sale to Condor is meant to be in 1936 or 1939. Especially if it was 1939, it is very doubtful that the aircraft ever went to Brazil since a return to Germany during the war is very unlikely. The site doesn't say anything about D-2588 'Rudolf Kleine' going to Brazil. It was in Europe in Feb 1934 and Apr 1934 and became D-AHIH mid-1934, so it seems very unlikely. |

Re: Junkers Ju 52 in Brasil
Joao, good morning.
Have you been in touch with Sergio Luis dos Santos? He wrote a book about the German airplanes in Brazil and was working on the second or third volumes...but he has been either busy or not frequent here on the Forum. I can pass you his contacts. Nice field of research you are digging in here....Keep going. Abraço, Adriano |

Your might find some answers here, but if you do not have it it's unfortunately out of print. We are in fact discussing a possible reprint.
