Mystery B-17

Since I haven't posted anything n a while I thought I would revive my mystery airplane thread. This is a picture of an early B-17F belly landed in a field. There are no divisional marks on the tail and the second letter of the code looks like "E" or "F". The picture appears in D.Caldwell's new book "Day Fighters Over the Reich" and it is suppoed to be a victory for Lt. Heinz Rose on July 28,1943. The same picture appears in an old copy of Heinz Knocke's "I Flew For the Fuhrer" from which I obtained the scan.
It is listed as one of his victories.

Re: Mystery B-17

In this one : http://www.amazon.com/Flew-Fuhrer-Gr.../dp/1853672637

The caption of plate 19 is "A Boeing's last landing, shot down by Wenneckers, May 1943."

Page 98, 14th May, 1943. : "...and the fiftieth was brought down by Flight Sergeant Wennekers."

Possibly 14 May 1943 Fw. Hans-Gerd Wennekers

Re: Mystery B-17

Kaki, it would be a nice idea to thank people on other forums for their efforts before duplicating them on another, and at least point people at your initial efforts at ID'ing the aircraft over on armyairforces.

Re: Mystery B-17

Yes, you're correct. I thank all the people at Army Air Forces for their help in tracing this airplane.
