So, according to the information Revi16 posted, B-24 42-52727 was in the 485th BG and finished the war.

Johan,
You may have seen https://www.459bg.org/Watson_Elmer_W9495_459BG.cfm

The report tells of a ditched 459th BG B-24 on 7 July 1944 with 7 rescued. This may account for the missing airman?

Regards,
Leendert

Johan

The three aircraft lost on 7 July 1944 were
42-64479, 42-52413 and 42-64479
Oddly enough the website lists them all as with 757 Sq

Cheers
Stig

42-64479 exploded over Felsőörs and covered a forest, while 42-52413 crashlanded at Nagyberki, in Hungary. (Many known pics for both.)

Hi Stig!

You mentioned 42-64479 twice, did you maybe have info on the third?

Regard
Johan

You are right....I did

So it goes when you just copy and paste without looking at what you really do.

I downloaded some time ago the data from that website and they actually repeat the same aircraft twice.

Sorry about that Johan, and no I don't have any further info.
Seems you have to wait and see if MAW will have anything extra that day

Cheers
Stig

Re: 2 Lt Elmer Watson Jr, 459th BG, 759th BS

The newspaper The Wilkes-Barre Record of 27 Jul 1944 mysteriously tells that Sgt Andrew M. Carlin was killed in action "over Africa". He was chief engineer.
Location not quite right if 459th BG says that B-24 ditched due to flak hits.

459th BG account writes that of this third B-24 lost on 7 Jul 1944 seven men were rescued after ditching. With a B-24 crew of nine, this may mean that both Lt Watson and Sgt Carlin went missing.

Regards,
Leendert
