Luftwaffe bombers losses on 8.3.1941 over the UK

Hi all,

I am looking for confirmation & additional info from the German side to the following two combats when the RAF fighter claimed two Ju 88s. So far I was able to compile following from different sources:

No. 266 Squadron
10.13
86406 P/O Frederick Peter Ferris (shot down by return fire and crashed in the sea)
758018 Sgt John Edward Van Schaick
off Skegness
4. (F)/122
Junkers Ju 88A-5 W.Nr. 0404 „F6+BM“
Oberfeldwebel Friedrich Beuker & crew missing

I have found his name in the official database of losses, but I am looking for names of other crewmembers

No. 222 Squadron
11.15
86340 P/O Bernard Peter Klee
745750 Sgt Rainford Gent Marland
off Great Yarmouth
4./KG 30.
Junkers Ju 88A-5 W.Nr. 2220 „4D+FM“
Hauptmann Karl-Ferdinand Schneider & crew missing
I was unable to find his name in the official database of losses + I am looking for names of other crewmembers

Any help much appreciated

TIA

Pavel

4. (F)/122
Junkers Ju 88A-5 W.Nr. 0404 „F6+BM“

Failed to return from a sortie to Newcastle

FF - Ofw Fritz Benker (note difference in name)
Bo - Lt Gustav Neumann
Bf - Alfons Schuler
Bm - Karl Lessmöllmann

Body of Lessmöllmann was picked up from the sea at Wootton (Norfolk) on 27th April 1941 (which is the date recorded on his headstone at Great Bircham, Norfolk)

Re: Luftwaffe bombers losses on 8.3.1941 over the UK

Thank you very much for adding the other crew I was looking for!

I have checked the database of casualties once more and there is no Ofw Fritz Benker killed/missing on 8.3.1941, only Obfw. Friedrich Beuker.

So it seems to me there is a typo - "u" has been mistakee for "n" what is very common mistake.

The question is which source is correct - I would guees Benker might be correct one as this surname is more common in Germany than the other one.

Re: Luftwaffe bombers losses on 8.3.1941 over the UK

The KG.30 Ju 88 dived past the 222 Sqn Spitfires just as they arrived on their patrol line. It flew across Lowestoft at 1,200 ft and dropped a mixed load of HE and IBs which fell between Notley Road (where four houses were destroyed and 16 people injured) and Normanston Park, on the N side of Lake Lothing, where a cowshed and an outside toilet were demolished!
The Ju 88 then made for home crossing out over N Lowestoft through a barrage of AA fire and pursued by the Spitfires. P/O Klee described the pursuit as "...decidedly unpleasant as shells were bursting around us".
At 1120 hours the Ju 88 crashed in the sea 6 miles E of Ness Point, Lowestoft.
