FW190 A-3 WNr. 7015 - Fayolle

Hello,

I'm working on the disappearance of Squadron Leader Fayolle on August 19, 1942.

On this forum on August 16, 2007, Steve49 provided the list of JG2 losses on August 19, 1942.
He wrote:
“The Focke-Wulf FW190 A-3 WNr. 7015 of Uffz K. Epsiger crashed in the channel after colliding with a Hurricane (174 Sqn-Comm E. Fayolle) at about 05.45.”

Who could provide me with a document confirming this fact?

Yours sincerely
François

174 Sqn F540 makes mention of this while German records state Epsiger collided with a Spitfire around 0800hrs German time. Look also at Yves Morieult's Croix de Lorraine sur Dieppe

All the German reports say that Uffz Epsiger was lost after clashing with a Spitfire (and he is credited with a Spitfire at this time), but the only Allied fighter lost at this time was the Hurricane of Cdt Fayolle. As he had become separated from his No2, there were no witnesses to his loss, but he can only have been lost in this incident.

Regards

Steve
