Identity of intruder/Mosquito that shot down Ju88 near Twente airfield 20-21 April 1944?
Dear all,
On the night of 20-21 April 1944, probably in the time frame between 23.00 and 23.30 hrs, the Gruppenkommandeur of III./NJG2 Hptm. Berthold Ney was shot down by a prowling Mosquito only minutes after leaving Twente airfield. Ney baled out of his Ju88 C-6 unscathed before it crashed at Avest/Beltrum, some 25 km SW of Twente, both his crew members were injured in the process. I have not been able to identify the Allied intruder/Mosquito that shot down Ney's Ju88. Who can help? Cheers and thanks for any pointers, Theo |

The crash of the JU 88 is written up here:
https://asn.flightsafety.org/wikibase/50566 Right next to it in the database is the crash of this Mosquito, which failed to return: https://asn.flightsafety.org/wikibase/50565 Both planes went down in the Netherlands about 40 miles apart, so.... maybe a possibility, especially if the JU 88 crash time you give is not quite correct. |

Thanks Richard for these pointers. I am pretty sure however of the time when Ney was shot down, this must have occurred shortly after 23.00 hrs... So a link with the Mossie that failed to return appears to be rather unlikely.
