Fritz Aufhammer DKiG Holder
What was his military career in WWII like? Did he joined the Bundewehr in the 1950's. I'm talking about Fritz Aufhammer, holder of the German Cross in Gold.

Re: Fritz Aufhammer DKiG Holder
Hello!
Auffhammer (spelled with two"f") was an old bomber pilot, he served in Spain 1938 (unit K88). I don't know his complete WW2 career, but he flew in KG 27 until 1942, then led the following units: II./KG 100 from 30-10-42, KG 100 from 04-05-43, KG 3 23-9-43 and finally JG 301 from Sept 1944 until May 1945. |

Re: Fritz Aufhammer DKiG Holder
For what it's worth, the correct spelling seems to be "Auffhammer" with a double-f (according to the Bundesarchiv file index for personal file PERS 6/137661) although you also see it spelled with a single f in wartime sources. Both versions of the name are found in Germany but neither is common.

Re: Fritz Aufhammer DKiG Holder
I remembered that Fritz Auffhammer has five air to air kills while he was Kommodore of JG-301.
