RFC First Battle of The Somme Losses
I'm trying to find out the total number of RFC casualties during the 1st battle of The Somme which includes RFC Observers.
At present I can only locate the no. of pilots lost. RFC machines destroyed, lost or damaged 782 RFC pilots, 308 killed, wounded or missing (out of a total of 426) Any help very much appreciated. Kind Regards Andy Bird |

I feel that the Aerodrome forum would be a better bet for such a question, not 12 OCH Chris |

Re: RFC First Battle of The Somme Losses
Andy,
You want to get a copy of the book by Chris Hobson, Airmen Died in the Great War, 1914-18: The Roll of Honour of the British and Commonwealth Air Services of the First World War published in 1995. A daily list of combats and losses. But like Chris said, WW1 aviation questions are best raised on The Aerodrome. And its Books section has a review of this book. Enjoy! Frank.
