Re: Collition of a Ju 52 in Greece
Hi Byron
In Greece it is always so tricky to recognize an airfield by the landscape and the hills behind, very often it looks the same. And it depends from the weather, sometimes you see the the same hill very close and sometimes far away...from the same spot. But to whom I am telling this, you know this best. But I agree, I also think this is not Crete. The only pic I have found so far is this one from the Molaoi-Book with the hill behind. But I'm not convinced at all, the hill on the Ebay pic looks really further away. Did you buy the pic? Is this the III./KGzbV 1 emblem (Bear) on the Ju52? Regards Harold |

Re: Collition of a Ju 52 in Greece
The number on the tail suggests Greece, but the bird's wings emblem is not common for aircraft involved in the attack on Crete, which usually had a leaping stag emblem.

Re: Collition of a Ju 52 in Greece
I think the emblem is the winged fuel drum of KGr.z.b.V.105 (they also used a '105' inside a white ring on other machines). The "7" on the rudder refers to the machine's individual Kennung, "G".
The leaping stag emblem was used by KGr.z.b.V.106. GRM |

Re: Collition of a Ju 52 in Greece
Hi Byron,
From the soil, the mountain shape and the line up of the planes i could suggest Topolia airfield. Probables could be Megara or Tanagra. nothing else in Greece. regards |
