RAF Claims 28 Oct 41

On this date a Do 217 from 6./KG 40 was lost and another one damaged returning with a wounded crewman. Some records state they were attacked by 266 Sqn but there is no mention in the F540 so can anyone confirm one way or another?

Re: RAF Claims 28 Oct 41

Chris

Looking in the recently published 'Air-war 1941, the non-stop offensive part two' by Foreman and Bock, they mention nothing specifically on the 28th.

Two losses on the 27th, one which they say was WNr 326 F8+DN 5./KG 40 lost to 266 Sq while the other crashed at Schiphol (80% damage)

Sounds like a confusion of dates here....

Cheers
Stig

StiG: Thanks for this. There is still nothing in the F540 for this combat although the combat report says 28 crossed out to read 27. German records say 28. Have also found that Sgt John Slaney of 257 Sqn also claimed a Do 217 the afternoon of 27 Oct 41

Re: RAF Claims 28 Oct 41

Indeed Chris

All three British claims are listed on the 27th.
Interesting that the German losses are all said to be from the 28th.

Obviously Bock has had to take a step aside while Foreman (as the main author) in this case believes the British records to be more correct than the Germans.

Hopefully you will find a solution of your own!

Cheers
Stig

Thanks Stig. Nothing on VDK either but the Lagebericht dated 28 Oct 41 confirms attacks on a convoy on 27 Oct and that one German aircraft was lost. Case solved-it is 27 Oct 41...
