Luftwaffe Training Unit Identity

On a photo of a pilot in training sitting in the cockpit the aircraft fuslage code is GQ+AC, could the training unit be identified please. The photo is likely to have been taken in the latter half of 1939 which airfield would the aircraft be based at,

Thanks

Re: Luftwaffe Training Unit Identity

Hi, Brian...

This machine is listed as a Heinkel He111H-1 on the strength of Erprobungsstelle Rechlin, as per the Stammkennzeichen lists over on the LEMB website.

Regards,

Paul

Re: Luftwaffe Training Unit Identity

Hi Paul,

Looks like my assumption on the last letter of the Fuslage code is wrong, the letters GQ+A are clear, but the last letter is partially blocked so it could be C,O or Q. The photo shows very little to identify the aircraft only a small section of the lower? wing trailing edge, the rear open cockpit and the cross and partial code. The Q partly covers a badge which may be the Bucker trademark.
Thanks for checking for me,

Regards

Re: Luftwaffe Training Unit Identity

Hi Brian
Can you post a scan of the foto on the Forum or send to me so that a positive ident can be made.

The Stkz series GQ+A . was used by Est Rechlin. Most of the letters from A to J were allocated to Heinkel types mainly He 111H. But the later letters were used by Henschel types.

Look forward to hearing from you
