Re: W/Cdr. Basil Embry, 23 May 1940.

Hello Martin,

Thank you for informing the whereabouts of his Logbooks and Memorablia. I did not know that...It is really a pitty that such Auction Houses (some pretty famous) do NOT make copies for Historical Societies or Entities in the UK (i.e.: WWII Experience Center, International Bomber Command Center, RAF Museum, IWM, etc.).

There should be a rule (National or international law) that:

a) WWII Documents such RAF Logbooks, Flugbuchs, etc. sold at such Auctions should be copied for Historical purposes and preserved in such kind of Museums or Centers for posterity.

I understand that, although private, those documents are part of UK and RAF History; therefore entries/copies should be made available by those Houses (and Family member owners) to those Museums and Centers, etc...Maybe one day we will have this established out...

Me too I would like to see copies or entries of his Logbooks as well as a deep biography of this incredible airman published (fully cross-checked with his Logbooks, etc.)...maybe one day...

I guess none of us (even the famous Historians that are members of this Board) are able to afford the 300-400,000£ range of such auctions...(even winning the Loto once or more!)...so our chances that the winner could share a photo (JPEG) of the relevant page for you (and for us) are slim...

He still deserves a full biography, cross-checked with the ORB's, his Logbooks and other's airmen he flew with...

Humbly yours,
A.

Hi Martin,

If you want I can take a look at Graham Warners notes (collecting dust) which I received after his death.

Drove Basil E around as secretary of Mosquito Aircrew in mid-1990s!

Kind regards

Andy Bird

Hello Andy,

thank you very much for the kind offer, that would be great !

As an aside do you think anyone will ever do a third edition of Graham's magnum opus on the Blenheim ?

regards,

Martin.
