1st Fighter Group loss 16/January/1945.

Hello,

Am seeking the serial number of a 1st FG/71FS a/c lost on 16th January, 1945.

Pilot's name:
1Lt. BRODERICK, John M. O-026311 from Morton County, North Dakota.

MACR 15795, does not seem to have serial number of the a/c (unless I missed it ).
Fighter was returning from mission and was lost, reason unknown(?)

Many thanks,
Alex

Re: 1st Fighter Group loss 16/February/1945.

Correct date is January 16, 1945.

MACR 15795 does not contain an actual MACR form. The body was recovered the next day, so the pilot was no longer a Missing Air Crewman, and no actual MACR was prepared. The records in the folder for MACR 15795 were prepared in March/April 1945 at the request of higher headquarters to satisfy a request by his father for further information. No a/c serial is shown. Since the body was found by the British, the serial might be in their records, but there is no reference to the English unit involved.

Enjoy!

Frank.

Thank you Frank, I got mixed up while looking at another report .
Have now edited my post.
Yes I have seen the report and as the high number suggests it was made out as you say, in a response to the fathers request for info.

Thanks
Alex
