Re: About a P-38 F-5 to identify ...
Philippe:
I am no P-38/F-5 expert but the partial s/n on the cowling might suggest 023, 025 or 029. the only Accident Report that might possibly fit this would be 43-29025 on 5 August 1944. The incident was a CBL 3 with Robert C Floyd of the 27th PRS at Mount Farm. the 3 code, on a scale of 1-5, meant the aircraft would more than likely have been repaired and flown again. Hope this helps a bit. Ted51 |

Re: About a P-38 F-5 to identify ...
Hi Ted. 27PS would be good bet as they had yellow spinners (13PS red rudders / blue spinners, 22PS white spinner fronts and rudders). Also the black-white bands on undersides only by August.
Into 1945 the group markings of Insignia Blue spinners and red bar on cowlings were introduced on both Spitfires and F-5s Nick |

Bonjour Ted51, Bonjour Nick,
Thank you so much !! Very impressive responses in time and quality ! Very interesting. As I don't find any mission with that a/c in "Eyes of the Eight" of P. Keen ... is there any sources giving such infos ? Thank you very much indeed for all your precious help ! Phil. |

Hi Philippe,
The above sortie isn't mentioned in the sortie appendix at the back of "Eyes of the Eighth" for some reason but the incident is mentioned in the text on pg.156 Best Regards Andy Fletcher
