Proposed Guidance for Part Identification Photographs

The posting of photos of parts and pieces recovered from wrecked aircraft (for identification purposes) is an interesting and important part of this forum.

To aid in the identification of these parts, I propose the following guidance:

1) Include scale, in the form of a metric ruler, in every photograph.

The inclusion of scale in evidence photographs is an important habit that we should all develop.

Example: Are these parts 2 cm wide or 20?

Anyone have other ideas that will assist in the process of identifying parts recovered from wrecks?

This may sound obvious but it is good to remind that,(if available), any other information available such as the date of the crash, the site location may be very useful.

Another remark: cleaning of the part is required (it is not easy to recognize an item plenty of mud).

Re: Proposed Guidance for Part Identification Photographs

Not really my field of interest and expertise, however JJ could be "Junkers Jumo"?

Am sure some real experts here on engines and this kind of "puzzle" will help you here. There are men who really know about that and can track the werknummer of the aircraft and therefore the full history of the crew and last flight only matching those part-numbers of pieces like that.

As Gilles remarked, perhaps interview with the old locals or relatives, or researching the old magazines and files (Police, Hospitals) of the nearby town can be of help...Cemiteries can add further info, if the crew was buried nearby....

BRONC,

Forgot to mention several members of this Fórum from Russia and former Russian States (Estonia, Letônia, etc.)...who are finding and matching this kind of wrecks. Some of them are doing mervellous Works of investigation and excellent historical researches. They may be of help here too....
