Re: Aircraft Tail Swaz - Identification Help!

looking again, it is not Fi156 Storch.

There are not enough fabric stitches.

I am leaning towards trainer or small recce type aircraft.

Re: Aircraft Tail Swaz - Identification Help!

I have to say I have now idea but a suggestion is to think about airfields which were already in Allied hands at April 25th 1945. So was Hof airfield in Allied hands at that day?
Best regards
Rolf

I have to agree Mike.

I looked at length yesterday evening and all the images I saw of tail Swaz's from the Fi156 Storch show it spanning at least 3 stitch lines, whereas this has one centrally.

I do not have this in hand as yet, hopefully next week.

I found this map for final Allied offensives from 19th April - 7th May and it shows the start line (as of 19th April) as having Hof just inside the Allies lines at that time.

So it seems that it was in fact in Allied hands as of at least the 19th, so 6 days prior to the dating on the back of this panel.

I have highlighted Hof on the map with the green dot.

REVI,

Your suggestion of a possible glider is quite interesting indeed....and the suggestion to the futur owner to take the measure of the item.

Good one!

Re: Aircraft Tail Swaz - Identification Help!

I would say its most likely from a glider after looking at these period images.

Thank you for posting them Revi.

My friend who was selling this panel said it was around 28cms, but I will measure it myself to be sure.

I will have the panel in hand hopefully next week so will measure and post the results here...

BR,

Christian
