Loss over France – Night 9/10 May 1944

Hello/Bonjour,

I wondered if there was a loss which fitted with the statement below, made by a crew of RAF No.605 Squadron for the night of 9/10 May 1944.

“F/Lt Woods and F/O Ray on freelance to EVREUX. At AVORD they saw an aircraft burning furiously on the airfield. Seems extremely possible that the pilot panicked and crashed on realising that a Mosquito was in same area.”

Best regards,
Frederic

Thanks a lot Alain57 for this info - It seems the pilot had been unhurt.

Hello Junker,

So, perhaps losses for K.G. 66 which had also Staffeln based on this airfield at the time? Or perhaps also a possibility with units which used this airfield for night training? I forgot to mention, on the ORB "record of events" the crew states also "aircraft single fin".

Best regards,
Frederic
