Thanks for producing the original file, Nick. This settles the case.

Is there the narrow red rear fuselage band to be seen just to the right of the GI's leg ? If yes, we have a good match We have here another photo from the same machine, clearly a G-6, also from an eBay auction:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/280920...EC9dybwQRptPJo

With my thanks to David Weiss for the photo and Roy-Magne Mo, over on Late war Bf 109's Group, FB, for matching both photos.

Cheers
Marc

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

Ah, perfect. Thank you.
I forgot this one:

G-6. JG3.III.11. 'Gelbe 2'. WkNr.165000. St. André-de-l'Eure, 25 Août 1944.
Of course if 11./JG3 the code isn't red.

Regards,
Franck.

Excellent ! Anders Hjortsberg does also narrow down on this one
Steve Sheflin found in CEA 257 a second "Gelbe 2" from 11./JG 3 at Saint-André-de l'Eure as well: WNF built W.Nr. 440760.

We now have to front those two valid candidates, W.Nr. 165000 and W.Nr. 440760, both from the same unit and at the same location.
- W.Nr. 165000 is said to be "Fuselage and engine only, tail torn off" (CEA 257).
- W.Nr. 440760 "listed as being a fuselage only" (CEA 257)

W.Nr. 165000 does offer an exact photographic match on the old eBay photo provided above tracked down by Roy-Magne Mo on my Flickr pages.
We are also sure that the current eBay offer does show the same machine, given the skin dent visible just ahead of the "Gelbe 2", clear to be seen on both shots.

Given those facts, the description given for W.Nr. 165000 is a 100% visual match versus the "fuselage only" given for W.Nr. 440760. I thus respectfully suggest we have on both photos W.Nr. 165000.

Cheers
Marc
