Re: J. Richard Ratten, Commanding Officer.
Hello
From November 1942 - May 1943 he commanded 453 Squadron RAAF, an Article XV Squadron, and he was, I believe, the first EATS trained pilot to command a Squadron. Allan

Re: J. Richard Ratten, Commanding Officer.
Thanks Col - totally agree with you, especially as you are using RAAF records (!), got my "first" wrong.
I have followed 453 for years, they served on 125 Wing, whilst my late father was at the Wing HQ, and then came back to the UK for Big Ben patrols as you know. The Australian archives gave me lots of documents whilst they were part of 125 Wing as your document retention policy is better than the UK, and I was able to find a photo of my father receiving an injection basically "to fighter germs as well as germans" on the AWM website, with the jab being administered by an Australian doctor, when Australian journalists were visiting the squadron pre-day. I have "Defeat to Victory" and I have been assisting Adam Lunney with his forthcoming book on Australians in Normandy. Cheers Allan
