Bf 109 F-4 D-IWAU

Hello,

Does anybody have information about a Bf 109 F-4 with civil markings D-IWAU? I could not find anything, only early Bf 109 types (some “V” aircraft) with civil markings.

Could it be a plane used by Messerschmitt for test flights? Or was it used e.g. by a civil pilot school?

Regards,
Roger

Re: Bf 109 F-4 D-IWAU

This was the V35, W-Nr. 9227 used in 1941/42 as a testbed for a DB 605 (W-Nr. 76076) with intercooler by Daimler-Benz at Echterdingen.
take over: 16 Aug(?) 1941 from Mtt Regensburg by railway ("16. IIX. 41" in the original document)
delivered: 22 Oct 1942 to the DVL at Braunschweig

Do you have a photo of this 109?

Peter

Re: Bf 109 F-4 D-IWAU

Hi Peter,

Most interesting! Thanks a lot.

Yes, I do have two photos showing the aircraft from the left side. Apparently it survived the war.

I would of course like to share the photos with the board members, but it will be published in a forthcoming book I am preparing and therefore, I would prefer not to show the photo. I know it is not that fair to ask for information but then not sharing the photo, but I hope you can understand the reasons why I don't publish the photos here yet.

I will send you a PM.

Regards,
Roger

Re: Bf 109 F-4 D-IWAU

In Versuch Nr. 10 18 105 049, Bericht Nr. 1 (from Daimler-Benz) it's called V34a, which makes sense since W.Nr. 9228 was another Bf 109 F-2 fitted with a DB 605 B-0 in late 41 and labeled V34b by Mtt A.G.

According to my documents from Daimler-Benz the V34 was the W-Nr. 5643/SG+EL/D-IGUD.
