P/O Peter "Boy" Mould's Hurricane Mk. 1
Hello,
The above mentioned pilot shot down RAF's first german aircraft over France since 1918. I have all the information on the german aircraft but all I have on Mould's Hurricane is that it bore Serial No. L 1842 and was from 1. Squadron. Is the actual code on his aircraft known? Thanks in advance, Christian

Re: P/O Peter "Boy" Mould's Hurricane Mk. 1
Christian,
Sgt. A.V. Clowes crash landed L1842 after his rudder was damaged in a collision with a French H-75A. According to Peter Cornwell in The Battle of France: Then and Now L1842 was coded "G". However a photo in Michael Shaw's No. 1 Squadron shows Clowes standing in front of the aircraft and it is clearly coded "T". No squadron codes were used. According to Cornwell, L1842 was repaired, apparently in time to be flown by Mould a week later. Regards, Tom |

Paul Richey flew "G", his favourite Hurricane; he flew it whenever he could ( it had a red spinner).

Chris.. it was Richey's Hurricane (G) which had a red spinner not Mould's; the undersides SHOULD have been Night-white divided down the centre-line, Night on port side, white on starboard but some in late 1939 still had the Night-white-aluminium underneath ( in various styles).
