Hi all,
Who can help me identify this Wellington Bomber, which crashed into the harbour of Wilhelmshaven Germany. You can see the first letter of the serienr "R" Thanks in advance, Michel |

Re: Wellington crashed Wilhelmshaven
Hello Michel,
Do you have any info as to a date when the Wellington was shot down, perhaps noted on the back of the photo? I can check the Wilhelmshaven Flak claims but need a time frame in which to search. Cheers, Theo |

Re: Wellington crashed Wilhelmshaven
Serial "R1###"
Possibly R16## or R18## So narrows it down a little as does the wide white bar in the fin marking, May 1940 - July 1942. Last edited by Alex Smart; 19th March 2017 at 16:26. |

Re: Wellington crashed Wilhelmshaven
Hello,
Have looked in BCL books for 1941/42. These may be possibilities - All are "R" a/c 1016 - 15/8/41 1045 - 22/2/41 1604 - 29/30/8/41 1608 - 25/6/41 1608 - 25/6/41 1614 - 15/7/41 1800 - 3/8/41 1802 - 13/3/42 Of the above 1800;1608 and 1045 may deserve a closer look. Alex |

Re: Wellington crashed Wilhelmshaven
I have R1608 as crashed in Lake Dobersdorf near Kiel at 02.25 hrs on 25th June 1941, but have not been able to find a matching German (Flak) claim. Do you perhaps? Cheers, Theo

Re: Wellington crashed Wilhelmshaven
Hello,
I overlooked R1802 in my earlier post. So - R1802 311 Sqdn "KX - P" SOS at 2053 hrs after which further messages received indicated the a/c was loseing height and speed. The last signal intercepted reported a sea landing was imminent and its position was given as 5317N, 0307E. Despite a search no trace of a/c or crew was found. Alex |
