345 Wing MACAF?

Quoted from several sources but details are scarce...

Le 26 avril 1943, le II/7 qui a fait mouvement vers Bône est incorporé au Wing 345 anglais, commandée par le Wing Commander Gilroy. Il prend, dans la R.A.F, la désignation britannique de Squadron 326.

Gilroy was with 324 Wing during this period.

Can anyone give me more details of this wing. I assume the victories of it's squadrons were accredited to it. I know that GCII/7 became part of 332 Free French Wing (1ere Escadre de Chasse) 3 October 1943.

regards

Keith

This may be wrong. I see mentions of GCII/7 as part of 323 Wing NACAF in July 1943.

I assume they remained part of this formation until 332 Wing was formed on 3 October 1943.

323 Wing was led by WC Mike Pedley.

Re: 345 Wing MACAF?

H. Dundas was Gilroy's (on sick-leave) deputy in 323 Wing, and he personally made an agreement with the Free French unit, and flew with them "once and never again".
345 Wing was transport wing in ACSEA (India and Burma) 1945.

Re: 345 Wing MACAF?

Many thanks Zoran. I found the quote "They traversed the hostile sky with the joyous and undisciplined élan of a pack of sealyhams hunting a wood for rabbits!"
