Erla Bf 109 E WNr.4136. Lif Special N°3.
Good morning Gentlemen,
The following picture is an extract of LiF Special N°3 back cover. It is depicting a Bf 109 E-7, WNr.4136. (Personally I see no armored plate inside canopy and no pointed nose and Erla production batch range is not helpful since it does include Bf 109 E-4/B and E-7; so why not) This is not the point. What I want to know is: What is that MG installation on wing, with that quite unusual fairing which looks like a BSK fairing??? (Note, I didn’t say it was a BSK installation though the gun tube seems to be “melted” with wing leading edge.) Regards, Franck. PS: By the way Weisse 21 wears the 1.(Einsatz)/ Erg.Gr. JG 26 marking characteristics displayed (for example) in Wevelgem, 1941. Last edited by ouidjat; 1st July 2013 at 16:35. |

Rounded windscreen? Like on E-3?

Good morning Pilot,
Sorry my friend, where do you see a rounded windscreen? It's a late one on White 21 and White 16 too. Regards, Franck. |

Believe or not I see it on image you post. Rounded top of windscreen, lower position of frame... I add extract from other image which present E-7 where is seen very small curvature of top of wind screen and frame in absolute top position.

Re: Erla Bf 109 E WNr.4136. Lif Special N°3.
Pilot,
This is the only E-3 canopy I know; that is "earlier" style canopy. The "late" canopy being use on E-3s, too (See WNF production) however. As for your frame, I understand what you mean, but chose a better angle of view to be sure that your E-7 frame is at the position you pretend to see it. As it is said: We don't know with that WNr. - through known production batch - if it is an E-4/B or an E-7 for sure (as the plane is in flight we cannot see the bigger oïl tank! )) To be correct we don't know - without WNr. - how to make the difference between an E-3 and an E-4 when both have the "late" style canopy. In fact, still to be precise - there is a way but we need a sharp photo displaying the lettering on underwing MG/FF fairing which is present only on E-4. (refer to Le Fanatique de l'aviation "Le Bf 109 dans tous ses états"... and to some past eBay pictures (two, only!)) And to make things easier White 21 has no armoured plate when my JG 2 E-3 extract has! Best regards, Franck. Last edited by ouidjat; 1st July 2013 at 16:35. |

Re: Erla Bf 109 E WNr.4136. Lif Special N°3.
I have no time to arrange other scanned hi resolution material I have. Never mind, hope you know it is not easy to claim for sure subtype. By the way- have you try to contact magazine you have mentioned?
Other problem is the fact that parts are interchangeable and parts from older version could be fit into later (know samples of machines completed in UK and Soviet Union) and hardly to proof that similar action was not done within operational units as possible temporary action. Keep on good work, I watch your subjects with pleasure

Yes Pilot,
You said it right, and especially in Erg. Units. Thanks for your kind words; I really do appreciate even if I'm not convinced with my OWN comments, many times. BR, Franck. |

Hi Srecko, are you able to show any photos that depict the earlier curved style front windscreen section in use with a later style flat panelled middle section. I'm intrigued to see these two parts fitting together correctly.

I did but no answer until now. Not only for this one ("Schwarzes M" for instance in Sch.G. 1) and I did only for that particular MG wing installation... I didn't even mention that Erg. Staffel/Gruppe possibility, which I discovered hours later. BR, Franck. |
