German Thunderstreaks
Greetings all,
I would like to know how many former German WW2 aces flew on the F-84F? Is any info available? Cheers

Re: German Thunderstreaks
Srecko
Rather odd question.... Sources/reports I have of the Germans who "went to school" with USAAF in the mid 1950's are lousy to say the least. I have the names of those who passed the first course (including Hartmann) but from what I understand that course was on the F-86 and not F-84. My feeling is that those pilots who did not settle with being general pilots in the new born Luftwaffe of 1956, and they either became commanders or went straight to some staff position. How much flying that was included if you became a staff personal is unknown to me, and how much of that flying that was based upon hours in the F-84 is even less known, but it would not surprise me if some former WW 2 Luftwaffe personal flew the F-84 just to receive their added flying payment. Two individuals who commanded F-84F units who simply MUST have flown the F-84F are a) Gerhard Barkhorn (commander JBG 31) b) Walter Krupinski (commander JBG 33) None of them are specifically listed as having FLOWN the F-84F but I doubt that only wild horses could have kept away from doing it.
