Re: 2019 Edition of the Officer Careers Summary

Doug and De Zeng,

WE OWE you both quite a number of beers, believe me! Congratulations on the most amazing File on LW airmen...I enjoyed finding new addings onto the BAUMGARTNER list...

Just a curiosity. on the short biography of Kurt Baumgartner, there is an entry about: Fleet Air Arm Beaufighters from 811 Sqdn...wouldn't that be FAA Wildcats or Martlets ??? I do not remember Beaufighters with the FAA, rather with Coastal Command, but I must be wrong...am not familiar...maybe some experts on FAA can correct me....

But, anyway...a most amazing ADDING...THANK YOU and CONGRATULATIONS!

Thank you both so much, Doug and Larry!

Doug, if you ever take a 6 hour drive to your southwest into north central Minnesota, the single malt is on me!

Excellent and well done!!
In the Intro I was puzzled by the statement
'Deletions: 158'
How come? Are we talking about perhaps individuals recorded twice or why are 158 officers suddenly "degraded"?

Cheers
Stig

Indeed, fellow researchers, colleagues and friends, duplications and other glitches are inevitable is a work of this scope that uses both unpublished and published material. For example, the only Luftwaffe documents that consistently used an officer's first name along with his last name are those originated by a Personalamt (personnel department). So, for example, if one runs into the name Bauer, Hoffmann and Mueller in other than personnel records, and there is no first name accompanying it, it is very difficult to match it to one of the officers by that name that we already have in our Lw.OCS. We are constantly on the watch for this, and when we find a duplicate or other problem we are sure of we delete it. The more entries we have for each name, the less of a problem this becomes.

Cheers,

HLdeZ and DGS
