Andrus

Since you are stating information not listed by anyone else, can you please also state your sources for your information given regarding Salwender?

Cheers
Stig

I know this doesn't help greatly but Porath was awarded his RK on 18 Oct 1941 so the photo was taken after that date as he is wearing it in the photo with the 19 tabs.

Hello,

my sources are CAMO 500/12452/448 and 449 - Luftflotte 5 Meldungen to Finns. Probably given over to soviets after end of war.

Thanks to all those who have contributed - we now know much more about Florian Salwender. Excellent!

Out of interest, Salwender's two victories for Hurricanes on 27 September 1941 has to refer to an action against the RAF's 151 Wing based at Vaenga. Intriguing!

Cheers
Brian

A link that is possibly no longer available, gave a victory over an I-153 by Dahmer and victories over a DB-3 and an I-153 by Rudi Mueller for the 17.9.41 air battle.
For the 27.9.41 battle, the other Hurricane was Rudi Mueller's 4th kill
For the 02.11.41 battle, 2 SB-2s by Rudi Mueller.

Hope that helps

Nick

Brian, I have these listed as claimed against 78 IAP (1st Soviet Hurricane-equipped unit) and that they are overclaims as there were no losses.

Hi, Nick.

Concerning those battles and claims as well as corresponding Soviet losses, here are the links to the original articles by Aleksandr Mardanov:

http://www.airpages.ru/dc/hist_83.shtml

And a summary of Rudolf Mueller's claims in comparing with real losses:

More secondary sources to look at (all in russian):

http://eismeerjager.livejournal.com
http://igor-ktb.livejournal.com

Mardanov got his book about year 1941 published:
Александр Марданов: 1941. Воздушная война в Заполярье.
ISBN 978-5-906716-44-6

discussion with author (seems that forum sometimes does not work): http://www.sk16.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=1425

also there is small critique about this book by author of one blog above:

Hi Nick

I don't believe you are correct in stating that 78-IAP had been equipped with Hurricanes by 27 September 1941.

Cheers
Brian
