DO217 loss 14/06/1944

Were there any Do217 raids against the Normandy beachhead on14 June 1944, and of so were Hs293 glider missiles used?

regards

Hello Keith,

yes Do-217 of III/KG100 operated from Toulouse / Francazal during night 14 to 15 june 1944 ; 9 Do-217 were up from 18:03 to 18:12 G.M.T. ; time over target (naval objectives before Utah Beach) about 21 hrs G.M.T. ; apparently Hs.293 bombs were used.

Hi Kieth,
from "Diver!Diver!Diver" :-
On night of 14th/15th June 3 Do.217's lost from operations off Cherbourg,
W/O. Wally Price of 410 (RCAF) Sqd. claimed 2 of these.
7/ KG.100 lost Do.217 (4748) 6N+KR; 9/KG.100 lost Do.217's (4555) 6N+NT and (4749) 6N+HR all armed with Hs293's.

In fact, 6N+HR and 6N+IT crashed in the Pyrenees probably due to a navigation error. Gilles Collaveri made researches and finally find parts of the two planes (several posts on this forum).

Re: DO217 loss 14/06/1944

Many thanks chaps. The Do217s I am looking for were shot down around 2200-2300 GMT in the Le Havre area by 443 Squadron. I can't find a mention of WO Price in Chris Shores; 2nd TAF, but TOE states his victories were on 12/13 June1944, and John Foreman FCWD alo places the victories on that date.

regards

Keith

Re: DO217 loss 14/06/1944

Hello Keith,

I can confirm that according to the combat report of W/O Price and P/O Costello their claims for 2 Do 217s destroyed were made on 12/13 June 1944 (at approx. 0210 and 0230 hours respectivelly), i.e. not on 14 June 1944.

I hope this helps a little,

Ota

Re: DO217 loss 14/06/1944

Again, my friend thanks for the information. I am getting closer with every piece of the jigsaw . I am surprised that 2nd TAF missed Price's victories, and to see some others of 410 are mentioned in the text but not included in the tables listing victories each day. Mind you with so much information there's bound to be a detail or two that falls off the table

best regards

Keith

Re: DO217 loss 14/06/1944

I presume these Dorniers were either DO217K-3 or M-11 sub-types?
