eBay: one Bf 109 E. Stab III./JG 54

Gentlemen,

http://www.ebay.de/itm/Foto-Flugzeug...item3f244f834e

In auction since last week. And four olders in attachment.

The new one lets show one emblem and scoreboard; huge one.
So we have the choice between JG 1 (seller), JG 21, JG 27 and III./JG 54.
Maybe an ErgSt. too ...
With that camo and the snow period is most probably winter 1940/41.
Note the spinner cap and C-3 in Octane triangle.

Because of period JG 1 & JG 21 can be eliminated and emblem background is too dark for JG 27. Hence III./JG 54.
With that scoreboard ... Bob's plane? should be but he wasn't flying in Stab Staffel at the end of 1940.

I have only one guess: The 22/12/1940 Bruch (98%. that matches obviously with what we have on pictures) of Uffz. Herbert Bauch (7.Staffel) who was flying an E-4/B WNr.3752 (a Stab III./JG 54 plane) with Doppelwinkel as it is written.

Comments?

Regards, Franck.

Re: eBay: one Bf 109 E. Stab III./JG 54

Franck,

This is scheduled as one of our Color Profile a/c for the EoE project. This is the a/c of Hptm Arnold Lignitz, Gr Kdr of III./JG54, displaying 19 victory tabs in two rows on the rudder. We have several excellent photos of the scoreboard of this a/c taken during early Nov., 1940, shortly after Lignitz won the RK and took over III./JG54. He was originally with 9./JG51.

We think that this is the fatal crash near Waterloo, Belgium, by Uffz. Karl Albrecht of 9./JG 54, on 14.02.41, with aircraft WNr924 a 100% loss. Albrecht was obviously flying the Gr Kdr's a/c when he crashed.

Re: eBay: one Bf 109 E. Stab III./JG 54

Thanks Larry for your help!

Note that at the time Herbert Bauch did crash 3752 Lignitz was already GrKdr so I had the choice in fact but nothing about that guy ...
Coincidence: I choose a guy who crashed a plane which wasn't his usual one, too.

Thanks again. I was more or less expecting a reaction coming from you!

Regards, franck.

Gentlrmen

I have this pretty poor image (source: expired eBay auction) in my unknown folder, a Bf 109E with a white Gr Kdr's chevrons. Is this the same aircraft?

Chris

Re: eBay: one Bf 109 E. Stab III./JG 54

Chris,

You really like to throw me curve balls, right when I'm in the middle of trying to work out profile packages on these a/c. At present, I'm working on Stab I./JG21 - III./JG54 Color Profile packages (seven of them), so I've been intensely studying the photos from these units. I think what you have here is probably a photo of the a/c of Hptm. Fritz Ultsch, Gr Kdr of III./JG54, not long before he was killed in E-4 W.Nr.5291 on 05.09.40. It looks like this a/c has a unique white front to the nose that I've never seen before. This could also be the a/c of Ultsch's temporary successor, Oblt. Günther Scholz, but my money would be on Ultsch. I have a very poor quality grab off eBay from several years ago that shows possibly this same a/c from a distance with a full white nose, and yellow rudder. I'd tentatively concluded that this was Ultsch's a/c.

Right now I'm trying to find photos of Stab I./JG21 a/c from the fall of 1939, through the spring of 1940, including the Western Camaign. Not much out there that I know of. Can anyone help? As far as I know, the white Stab chevrons and bars were NOT used by I./JG21, the predecessor unit to III./JG54, but apparently came into use when the units were renamed in July, 1940, in time for the Battle of Britain. Does anyone know anything different? The first confirmed use of these white stab markings was on the a/c of Oblt Albrecht Dress, who force landed <-+ on 12.08.40, near Margate Kent. Who else has photo of a/c with these white stab markings during 1940?

Retards,

Gents,

It's better before than after Larry!
You sure you want it? Okay, let's go.
(Hope I've enough place in the box; I've erased pics three times last week; nothing left from before March)

...
