Do215 retouching
In attach is the images of the Dornier Do 215. Second image present cross on the port wing and you will noted that this cross is retouched. All insignia is reworked in this way but as well this is the scan of the original photo and they are on original did anybody know why this retouching was done?

Re: Do215 retouching
If you look carefuly can find several examples where the black and white paint used on the crosses and codes are glossy. It may be the case when the glossy paint is caught by strong light.

Re: Do215 retouching
Thank you Santos- have you note stripes over white fields?

Re: Do215 retouching
Sorry, do not understood what you mean... Maybe... stripes on the white areas of the markings?

Re: Do215 retouching
Maybe the whole aircraft was repainted, but the crosses were masked over and retained from the earlier paintscheme? That could also have made them look bleaker than the rest of the paint.
It actually looks like poor decals on a plastic model |

Re: Do215 retouching
If that was a model, the modeller would lose points because of the obvious wing to fuselage join.
Interesting to see the negative trim of the entire tailplane. I've seen it as obvious on ground views but not noticed it in aerial ones before. I agree that it is most likely the different sheen on the markings: one reason for retouching could have been the removel of the oversized crosses seen on early war aircraft, but any retouching done that badly would show up on the wing around the markings, too. |

Re: Do215 retouching
This is the Dornier public release image and yes- insignia look like the bad decals on the model.

Re: Do215 retouching
In the intersection of the wing and fuselage was inserted wood and over it was filler and strip of fabric.
I have take look again and it is obvious attempt for retouch but don't know why. Anyway thank you all for help and suggestions.
