Re: who ? was emmes schmidtt
"Emmes" is an german nickname and nearly impossible to translat!! , I think you mean Uffz. Gerhard Schmit (?) from 2./JG 51. He has about 20 victories, but do not know if all are confirmed. He spent five or six years in an "Russian Hotel" after he was shoot down by AAA.

Re: who ? was emmes schmidtt
By my best knocklege there is no RK-Holder with JG 51 named "Schmidt" or "Schmitt". My info about Uffz. Schmitt is an handwritten notice, over 35-years old, when I talk with an JG 51 Veteran over his time at the Ostfront.

Re: who ? was emmes schmidtt
According to the Aders & Held book Jagdgeschwader 51 "Mölders" there was an Uffz. Gerhard Schwarz in 2./JG 51 who was nicknamed "Emmes." He gained about 20 victories before being shot down on 21.06.43 becoming a POW.

Re: who ? was emmes schmidtt
There was some information about "Emmes Schmidtt " better known as Gerhard Schwarz in an old Harleyford publication about the FW190 authored by Heinz Nowarra. After his capture in June 1943 he was a prisoner until 1949 approx.. - relying on memory here - can't locate the book..Look up Schwarz in the Kracker Luftwaffe Pilot Archive site for some info about him.
Good Luck with your research, Pyker |
