Re: InformAtion concerning loss of Uffz. Matthias Schindler - killed over England 16.01.1941

Hi Rick

His aircraft was shot down at 01.35h by Pilot Officer Richard Playne Stevens, of 151 Squadron based at RAF Manston, flying a Hurricane. This is the first of two aircraft that he shot down that morning (night). His original combat reports for the 16/01/1941 can be downloaded from the National Archive (fee to pay):

http://discovery.nationalarchives.go...ils/r/D7443382

He was awarded the DFC for these actions. The original gazette can be downloaded (free) from:

The plane was shot down by Pilot Officer RP Stevens DFC of 151 Squadron and crashed at Hartswood near Brentwood.

All the crew were originally buried at Becontree Cemetery, and are now buried in a collective grave at Cannock Chase (Block 9, Grave 61).
