Hugo Broch is coming to Finland

Dear forum members,

It is my great pleasure to inform you that our long tradition (we started in 2003 with Günther Rall) inviting foreign veteran pilots to Finland continues:

Hugo Broch (JG 54) is visiting Finland in August.

Mr Broch (born in 1922) served in Jagdgeschwader 54 on the Eastern Front in 1943–45. He got his first confirmed victory on 13 March 1943. During the winter 1943–44 he spent a few months in France as a flight instructor, but returned then to the Eastern Front. He was awarded Ritterkreuz on 12 March 1945. When the war ended, Broch flew from Courland to Flensburg with three other men in his Fw 190. Altogether he has 81 air victories.

He was awarded with EK I and II, Frontflugspange in Gold (für Jäger), Ehrenpokal, DKiG, Ritterkreuz and Ärmelband Kurland.

Mr Broch will give a presentation at the Finnish Aviation Museum (near the Helsinki-Vantaa airport) on Saturday, August 29th at 14.00 o´clock. His lecture will be in German and it will be translated to Finnish language by me.

Please read more details about his visit here:

(Unfortunately only in Finnish)

Best regards,

on behalf of the Finnish Aviation Museum Society

Wish someone could post his description of his first victory if he talks about it there. Haven't seen a lot from JG 54 pilots of their war experiences.

Re: Hugo Broch is coming to Finland

Hi,

sure I can ask him some details when he is here. By the way, Mr Broch has stated that he actually got a victory already a week before, 7th of March . However, it was not confirmed to him personally, but booked to his Staffel instead. The reason for that was typical behaviour for young and eager wingman: during the combat he didn´t stay with his Rottenführer!
