Sharkmouthed Spitfire Mk. Vc, 307th FS/31st FG

Hi,

Which the name and rank of the pilot of a sharkmouthed Spitfire Mk. Vc MX*P (ER180), of 307th FS/31st FG, in La Senia, Algeria, November 1942?

Thank's a lot!

Franklin

Hi Franklin

In Dennis Kucera's 'In a Now Forgotten Sky', there is a photo of MX-P with Capt Arthur P. Holloway Jr of the 307thFS standing on the wing by the cockpit. Could it have been his aircraft?

Cheers
Brian

Hi, Brian,

Thank's a lot!

You have details of the combat career of Capt. Holloway?

How many air victories he had?

Cheers,

Franklin

Hi Franklin

Capt Holloway was credited with one victory but I don't know the date. Of course, he may not been flying MX-P. Perhaps Frank Olynyk can help?

Cheers
Brian

Arthur P Holloway, Jr was credited with a Me-109 destroyed on April 28, 1943 between 1020 and 1130; the location given is J-8550. He was also credited with a one quarter share in a Me-109 probable on March 21, 1943, between 115 and 1515, location between T-7013 and Y-3492. I do not have the relevant maps to determine the location better.

Frank.

Just out of curiosity did Holloway complete his tour. If so on what date? Or did he become a casualty?

Hi Andy

As far as I can discern, Holloway completed his tour - he certainly wasn't killed whilst with 307thFS.

Cheers
