Aircraft over Remagen

Hi everyone

I am searching for detailed information on the number and type of German aircraft that attacked Remagen Bridge between 7th and 17th of March 1945. Which units these aircraft were attached to and which were aircraft were shot down and by who.

I have been searching through published records on Remagen but cant get the complete picture and details I need.

Any help in compiling would be much appreciated.

Many thanks
CJ

Your best bet is probably National Archives file AIR 20/7891 which includes translations of the Luftwaffenkommando West evening and morning situation reports for February and March 1945. These will not tell you who shot down what however because much of the time all they would know is that an aircraft had failed to return.

Re: Aircraft over Remagen

Thanks very much Nick, that's a great help.

One other thing I am interested in is finding out is which Allied aircraft units were in action over Remagen. If anyone has a good source of information on this it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks again
CJ

The air-cover over the Remagen bridge on those days was provided by 474th Fighter Group.

Best wishes !
