Ju-88 attack 30th Nov 1941

A lone Ju 88 attached RAF Peterhead at approx. 11:05am on 30th Nov 1941.

It came in low. 50-100ft dropping 2 x 500 kg bombs and strafing the airfield.

Based on the time, and a cruising speed of 239 MPH, looking for likely bases for the Ju-88 which had a range of about 1100 miles?

For reference, Stavanger is 300 miles, Aalborg 453 miles away as crow flies from peterhead

Anybody got any info, records, claims on the attack on Peterhead Airfield

It sounds like something the recce unit 1.(F)/120 would do which were operating from Sola and Aalborg. I have records either side of that date for one crew but nothing more

Re: Ju-88 attack 30th Nov 1941

Home Office Key Points reports just has 30/31st November - Aberdeenshire: R.A.F Aerodrome , Longside . No details given for any damage just that it was attacked. The Luftwaffe over Scotland publication says Longside where 416 Sqd, Spitfires were based was attacked by a lone Ju 88 with one pilot killed and three airmen injured

Re: Ju-88 attack 30th Nov 1941

The airman (RCAF) died of abdominal injuries caused by bullets whilst he was in the store building. Some buildings were also bomb damaged as was the main water supply.

I have the Airfield side, but trying to establish what Luftwaffe unit probably did the attack.
