Barracuda loss 7 December 1944

Hi,

Sub Lt John H Greig was a pilot with 814 Squadron, Fleet Air Arm. He was based at HMS Owl, a Royal Naval Air Station at Nairn, Scotland. On 7 December 1944 he took off for a flight but failed to return.

Temp Sub Lieutenant (A) J H Greig +
Temp Acting Petty Officer D Oakes +
Temp Acting Leading Airman T Penny +

The aircraft they were in was a Barracuda. Would anyone know the serial number of this aircraft and any possible details of the sortie they were on.

Thanks,

Alex

Barracuda LS877

At Fearn, crashed in sea during approach on target ship for ALT*, Cat Z. Oakes is named first so must be the pilot

* Aerial Light Torpedo (Attack) [ a simulated torpedo attack using a camera system to assess the probability of successful launch]

From Sturtivant's Fleet Air Arm Aircraft 1939 to 1945
