It sounds as if someone's plotting a novel here —shades of "The Eagle Has Landed" (Jack Higgins) plus Geoffrey Household's "Rogue Male" and "Rogue Justice". For the nuts and bolts of getting around pre-war Europe by clandestine means, I'd recommend reading some of Alan Furst's novels (which in turn owe something to Eric Ambler's work).
