Nachtjagd victory details Oblt. Horst Henning 8./NJG3?
Dear all,
I'm looking for any info on the 3 (or 6?) Nachtjagd Abschüsse achieved by the former bomber ace and Ritterkreuzträger Oblt. Horst Henning in 8./NJG3 in the summer of 1944. (Kaiser, die Ritterkreuzträger der Kampfflieger page 202 quotes him with 3 Nachtjagd Abschüsse, http://falkeeins.blogspot.com/ quotes him with 6, various other secondary sources quote him with 3 NJ claims). In the OKL/RLM Abschussmeldungen microfilms, I've not been able to find any Abschüsse for Horst Henning .. I've asked about this before on this excellent forum http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showthread.php?t=43561 but regrettably got no replies. Hopefully new info has come to hand since that could solve this little mystery. Any details much appreciated! Cheers, Theo |

Re: Nachtjagd victory details Oblt. Horst Henning 8./NJG3?
Theo,
I have one victory for him: Film C. 2025/I Anerk: Nr. - [6118]; WK NJG 6 f. 48 [6174]; Kock, pg. 48 while in 4./NJG6, February 26, 1944 at 1347. The above based on Tony Woods' files, and Kock's history of NJG 6. At this point my German claims file is rather poor, having done almost no actual research, so I would not assume that he had only one victory. Enjoy! Frank.

Re: Nachtjagd victory details Oblt. Horst Henning 8./NJG3?
Hello Frank,
Thanks for your reply, but this was another Nachtjäger called Henning, here's the entry in the manuscript of the 1944 NCA series -the right date of the claim is 24.2.44: Lt. Wolfgang Henning 4./NJG6 B-17 N. of coast nr. Warnemünde, i.Zus.W.: 3.500 m. 13.47 B-17 G 42-31349 385 BG/550BS. Note: same claim as Maj. Leuchs 13.44 hrs and Oblt. Ehrhardt 13.45 hrs. Claim Lt. Henning not listed in OKL/RLM 4./NJG6 Confirmed Abschussübersicht, only listed in KTB Stab NJG6 and on OKL/RLM microfilm Cheers, Theo |

Theo,
Thanks for the correction. I have updated my database accordingly. Strangely I have the date of Feb 24 entered; I shouldn't rely on my memory for such things. Enjoy! Frank.

Re: Nachtjagd victory details Oblt. Horst Henning 8./NJG3?
Hi Theo
I think the earlier Staffel typed-out microfilm exists for 8./NJG3, anyway I have claims back to June 1942...…….and nothing for a Horst Henning from then until end 1944. Kind Regards Johannes |

Re: Nachtjagd victory details Oblt. Horst Henning 8./NJG3?
Hi Theo
Are we even sure Henning flew with 8./NJG3, he would have been an Oberleutnant….fact, yet 8./NJG3 already had an Oberleutnant Fritz Brinkmann, who was scoring heavily during August 1944, unfortunately I know nothing about Brinkmann, just have his claims, but no date of Birth/death, not sure about DKiG, I would think he was Staffelkapitan of 8./NJG3 from April 1944 until the wars-end, but don't even know this, hopefully some kind person can educate me on the guy. Matti our losses expert can tell us if Henning was even with 8./NJG3 when he was lost during the night of 7./8.10.1944. Kind Regards Johannes |

Oblt. Horst Henning was with the 8./N.J.G. 3 from approx. July 1944. He was posthumous promoted to Hptm.

Thanks chaps for posting your further info on Henning. I believe we can now safely assume that Horst Henning had no -official- Abschüsse in the Nachtjagd to his credit.

Hi Theo
As unpopular as it is, that is my opinion/conclusion. Regards Johannes |
