You caught us yesterday an interesting case. This burning Ju 88 G-1 seems to my eyes to bear the W.Nr. 714053. If this is confirmed, W.Nr. 714053 from 2./NJG 101 crashed 19 October 1944 at 20.38 at Geroldshausen in der Hallertau, close to Ingolstadt from where it took off, killing all its crew (FF Lt. Erwin Köstner, BF Uffz Alfred Bormann, BS Gefr. Heinrich Köhler). I of course stand corrected against the caption stating this machine was blown-up 17 May 1945 at Braunschweig. Source: GQM Schulen via Michael Balss's loss list. Cheers Marc |

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Marc, I make it 714053 too (see the cleaned up detail of the image attached).

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Thanks for your clearer blow-up of the W.Nr., Nick !
As an alternate solution for this riddle, could we have a typo for the 17 October 1944 loss report ? Cheers Marc |

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Original report, NVM, speaks of Wn 4053 !, type G-1, all G-1 are beg. by 711+++ 712+++ 713+++ or 714+++, logical to go to the 714053, built in June 44 so could match, but picture seems to show a field of wrecks ..

Un grand merci Rémi !
Thanks Rémi for the original W.Nr. quoting. It doesn’t solve our riddle though... Do we have documented reallocated W.Nr. cases ? Cheers Marc |
