Career Oblt. Gustav Francsi before he joined the Nachtjagd?

Dear all,

According to the excellent LW Officer Career database, Oblt. Gustav-Eduard Francsi served with KG40 and 10./NJG1 before he joined I./NJG100 and had a most successful career in the Ostfront Nachtjagd. What I would like to know are more details about his service with KG40, and if it indeed is correct that he served with 10./NJG1 (in 42-43?).

I have never seen Francsi's Flugbuch and/or Leistungsbuch; did these survive post-war?

Cheers and thanks for any details, Theo

There is a PERS-6 file at the BA-MA for this guy - PERS-6/234880 - which might help.

Thanks for that Steve. Has anybody checked this file? Most of the LW personnel files that I've checked contained disappointingly little info on their operational careers.

Cheers, Theo

I have ordered some 250+ personnel files myself and I think they in general contain good information. Of course not always their late operational career is well covered.

Re: Career Oblt. Gustav Francsi before he joined the Nachtjagd?

I apologize for taking sides, but I agree with John M. In 2018 I had the good fortune to have full access to the complete files of nearly 500 Heeres officer personnel who switched over to the Luftwaffe as Aufklärungsflieger pilots and observers between 1938 and early 1943. With few exceptions, their PERS-6 files were packed with detail, enough so that their entire military career could be assembled. These were a gift from a very respected friend in Berlin. I sure wish I had the money and time to do this with the Karteikarten (career cards detailing the postings of every Luftwaffe officer (122,000+)). These would be very helpful is straightening out confusing entries in our Lw. Officer Career Summaries, but I've found it impossible to obtain copies from BA-MA. Perhaps our European members here might have better luck.

L.

Hello all,
Francsi flew for Sonderstaffel Travemünde, 2./KG 40, FFS A/B 118, FFS C 19, BFS 3 and 8./NJG 200 befor he came to I./NJG 100 as TO.
In KG 40 he was a Bordmechaniker (15.10.1939 - 15.08.1941) with 113 sorties on Fw 200, pilot unknown.

Thanks Sven for confirming these details, especially on his career with 2./KG40.
