Searching for info on Erich Haindl + 27.04.1945

Hi to all,

Can anyone supply us with details regarding a Luftwaffe pilot named Erich Haindl. Erich was killed in action on the 27th April 1945 believed flying with an SG unit, his death notice (which we want to include on our website) states from 5.Pz Jagdstaffel. We would be delighted to recieve any further information regarding this loss.

Kind regards,

Melvin

Hi,

I will say that we only have two possibilities:

* 5./SG77 was for sure a documented Pz staffel using Panzerschreck rockets

* 5./SG151 if far less documented but a 5.einsatzstaffel was awaited by the beginning of April 1945.

no other 5(Pz) staffel in the others SG units as far as I know

Cheers, Olivier

Re: Searching for info on Erich Haindl + 27.04.1945

Hello Guys,

AFAIK Luftwaffe officially did not have something like a "Panzerjagdstaffel" in 1944/1945 and I have never seen this designation in connection with a Schlachtgeschwader. The Staffeln with rockets were called like 7.(PzBl)/SG 77 or something very similar to this.

This leads me to something completely different:
There were "Panzerfauststaffeln 1 to 11", equipped with Bücker Bü 181 and Panzerfaust attached to their wings. All of them were established in early April 1945 and pilots mostly were former flying-instructors.
5. Panzerfauststaffel was established at Gablingen, probably from personal of FFS A 5 and it was operational against US-forces crossing the Danube in late April 1945. It surrendered at Berg bei Söchtenau 10 kilometers NE of Rosenheim on 5th May 1945. Perhaps Haindl, a former flight-instructor, was a member of this Staffel.

Cheers

Carl
