Another He 162 photo from Pintrest
Good afternoon,
This photo depicts the crash of the uncamouflaged He 162 E2+52, probably at Rechlin. http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/album....&pictureid=655 best regards, Jim |

Re: Another He 162 photo from Pintrest
Wow, most interesting picture. Always a pleasure finding new He 162 pictures. Looks like the BMW was still running when it flipped over? The turf looks scorched behind the aircraft? The instrument panel hanging outside the cockpit. The 20 mm cannon barrel protruding. Thanks for sharing this picture.
I’m also amazed the cowling is still intact. Most interesting picture. Troy |

Well the caption is in English, so most probably this photo wasn't taken in Rechlin (which was captured by the Red Army), but still, quite interesting shot

Re: Another He 162 photo from Pintrest
The only reference I could find to it was from Manfred Griehl, Luftwaffe Profile Series No. 16 Heinkel He 162, (2001), p.18:
"The first 18 He 162s were now to go to the Heidfeld detachment ... On 30 March, however, there was not a single He 162 in Lechfeld or Rechlin. The first two machines arrived there in mid-April 1945 and bore the codes E3+51 and E3+52..." |

Re: Another He 162 photo from Pintrest
Jim
Your posts are slightly confusing. I don't have Griehl's book from 2001, but I have his later one from 2007 and also Forsyth/Creek's He 162 from 2008. In post 1 you say the code was E2+52 but in post 5 you refer to codes E3+51 and E3+52 Since both ranges existed, ie E2+ and E3+, it is, as stated, a bit confusing. Oddly enough in his 2007 book, Griehl makes no mention (in the production appendix) of any E-numbers, but F/C does, and if E2+52 is correct, your post 1, we are looking at WNr 220 010 (the M27 or A-010) VI+IT which was 60% destr 2 March 1945 at an unknown place. However trying to actually see what is painted on the fuselage, that looks more like an E3 prefix followed by 52 and then at least I am in trouble because no E3+52 is listed anywhere as I can see. So what is it, and if E3+52, has any WNr surfaced for that aircraft? Cheers Stig |

Re: Another He 162 photo from Pintrest
Hi Stig,
A senior moment. I apologize. To me also the photo shows "E3+52" and I have no idea of the werknummer. To add to the confusion, since Griehl mentions Heidfeld, from Simon Schatz's site depicting his profile of "M34", he gives, referencing Verluste der deutschen Luftwaffe in Osterrich September 1943 bis Mai 1945, "... On (March 31st 1945) three Heinkel 162's made an intermediate landing there after the Heinkel factory had to be evacuated. One aircraft overshot the runway and overturned. Pieces of wreckage possibly from this aircraft were still scattered there after the war." This may or may not relate to E3+52. E3 Rechlin was responsible for engine trials. Re: Another He 162 photo from Pintrest
Hi folks!
I have following to add: The photograph of He 162 E3+52 was taken by Tony Koszykowski at München-Riem. This photograph is just one of a set with other well known airplanes found there. He 162 M34 W.Nr. 220022 crashed west from Munich. Parts of it were found more than 10 years ago. |

Jim
No need to apologize here, we're all friends, trying to get to the bottom of something which interests both (most) of us. Exchanging thoughts, new found photos and/or data is part of that. Actually quite nice to share senior moments with someone, I am quite good at that all by myself.... Simon Thanks for joining. Are you thus saying you believe E3+52 was WNr 220022? Also is everyone else happy about that? Cheers Stig |

Re: Another He 162 photo from Pintrest
Stig, no E3+52 was not 220022. According to Olivier Menu E3+52 was 220102.
