https://memory.loc.gov/diglib/vhp/st...2001001.48712/
https://www.echovita.com/us/obituari...berry-13779010 from Facebook: Fans of the C-47 Skytrain Robin Gilbert · 1tl5o9n3s h6m5g0gmu3ier959dsl2 · It is with great sadness that I share the news that Gerald C Berry (known as Bud ) a pilot with the 91stTCS part of the 439th TCG Passed away on November 30th 2021 at the age of 101years. He arrived at Balderton a week or so after the main party of the 439th TCG had made it over to the UK bringing an additional C47 that he had flown over along with two or three other C47’s. On his arrival he was met by Major Howard Morton who showed a huge interest in the plane and after Gerald Berry explained it had two very smooth running engines and was complete with glider snatch equipment. The Major informed Gerald Berry that he was the squadron commander of the 91st TCS and that he intended to take over the aircraft as his, and Gerald Berry was to be his co pilot. It was not very long after the D-DAY assault that Major Morton was on another posting and Gerald Berry then became number one pilot and remained with the same C47 until after the liberation of Western Europe. He is depicted in a well known photograph picking up a glider from Normandy after the D-Day mission. He also was one of two pilots who carried out an evacuation of wounded soldiers from Remagan . For more details on Bud and his service see rmchairgeneral.com/rescue-at-remagen.htm I must add that Gerald Berry and his wife Peggy paid host to me and my late wife for a week at Clearwater Florida during November 2004 and we found them a delightful American couple and Bud was a very modest veteran regarding his part during WWII.
